BelGAS Introduces Automated Test Bench for P140 Residential Regulators
Cleaner, Faster, and More Accurate Testing Through Automated Regulator Testing Software (ARTS)
BelGAS, a division of Marsh Bellofram and a leading provider of gas pressure regulation products, has unveiled a major advancement in quality assurance with the launch of its new P140 Regulator Automated Test Bench, developed in house and powered by its proprietary Automated Regulator Testing Software (ARTS).
Designed specifically for straight NPT body P140 residential regulators, the new automated test bench replaces the traditional “dunk test” with a dry, software-driven process. By eliminating the need for water immersion, BelGAS has removed the risk of premature corrosion while creating a cleaner, faster, and more consistent testing method that ensures every regulator meets exact performance standards.
The move away from water-based testing also brings new visibility into regulator performance. “With the elimination of dunk testing, we can catch any internal issues that operators might not otherwise see,” said Gage Niedermeyer, manufacturing supervisor. “Our goal is to always ensure customers receive the best parts possible.”
The ARTS platform allows operators to simply input orifice size and spring range, after which the software automatically adjusts inlet pressure, performs the flow test, and records results locally for full data traceability. The system’s precision and repeatability further reduce the risk of human error and streamline production.
“We appreciate the efficiency of the auto testers that have been implemented so far,” said Aidan DeLuca, continuous improvement engineer. “For this test alone, we’ve more than doubled our throughput, which means faster deliveries and the ability to reallocate operators to more pressing issues.”
This latest investment reinforces BelGAS’ ongoing commitment to innovation, precision, and quality ensuring that every regulator meets the industry’s performance standards (such as ANSI B109.4) while continuing to build confidence among OEMs, distributors, and end-users alike.
“Our continuous improvement engineers really led the charge on this project, developing an automated system that improves accuracy and ultimately helps us better serve our customers.” said Jon Kaufman, BelGAS business unit manager.
In addition to this milestone, BelGAS plans to expand automated testing to its angle-body P140 regulators and incorporate relief testing for relieving P140 models in the near future. The company currently operates an additional automated test bench for its P200 Series regulators, with more in development.
